Assam has become the first state government in the country to directly produce oil following the discovery of hydrocarbon reserves in the Namrup Borhat-1 well. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday through his official X handle.
The discovery was made by Oil India Limited in a well where the Government of Assam holds a significant stake. Sarma described the development as a major step towards strengthening energy security and boosting economic resilience.
With this, Assam’s ongoing exploration efforts have yielded success, offering the state a direct source of revenue and royalty while contributing to the country’s energy supply. The Chief Minister called it a proud moment for the state.
