Cyclothon Promoting ‘Human–Animal Coexistence’ Marks 71st Wildlife Week Celebration In Manipur

As part of the ongoing 71st Wildlife Week Celebration, the Central Forest Division, Forest Department, Government of Manipur, successfully organised a Cyclothon under the theme “Human–Animal Coexistence.” The event celebrated the bond between people and nature while promoting wildlife protection and sustainable living practices.

The Cyclothon was flagged off by Shri Anurag Bajpai, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force, and Additional Chief Secretary (TCI/Transport), who attended as the Chief Guest. The rally commenced from the Forest Office Complex, Mantripukhri, and concluded at the Manipur Zoological Garden, Iroisemba, covering major city landmarks such as Mantripukhri Road, Hatta Minuthong, Palace Gate, Governor House, Kangla Gate, and B.T. Flyover.

The rally aimed to raise awareness on environmental consciousness, ecological balance, and peaceful coexistence with wildlife. Cyclists were greeted by enthusiastic onlookers along the route, creating a festive and inspiring atmosphere that highlighted the message of green mobility and wildlife protection.

More than 150 cyclists representing various organisations and clubs, including the Manipur Adventure and Mountain Biking Association (MAAMBA), Manipur Royal Humber Cycling Club, and Cycle Squad, participated in the event. Many individual cyclists and youth volunteers also joined, wearing themed T-shirts and carrying placards with conservation messages. The participants showcased their commitment to eco-friendly practices and wildlife preservation, emphasising that simple lifestyle changes like cycling instead of driving can help reduce carbon emissions and protect natural habitats.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Shri Anurag Bajpai, IFS, lauded the Central Forest Division for organising the impactful awareness drive. He stressed that wildlife conservation is a collective responsibility and that engaging youth in such activities is crucial for ensuring a sustainable future.

The event was attended by several senior forest officials, including L. Joykumar Singh, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests (T-1/Wildlife/APM); RK Amarjit, IFS, Conservator of Forests, Central Circle, and Special Secretary, Environment & Climate Change; Vikram Suresh Nadhe, IFS, DFO, Central Forest Division; Amandeep, IFS, DFO, Kangpokpi Forest Division; Amit Kaler, IFS, DCF, Park & Sanctuary Division; Biramangol Singh, Director, Manipur Zoological Garden; and Thokchom Autumn Meitei, DFO, Wildlife Division.

At the concluding ceremony held at the Manipur Zoological Garden, participants were felicitated for their active involvement. RK Amarjit, IFS, delivered the Vote of Thanks, extending appreciation to all cyclists, officers, and support staff for their dedication to wildlife conservation.

The event reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting environmental sustainability, reducing vehicular pollution, and fostering public participation in wildlife protection. The “Pedal for the Planet, Protect the Wildlife” Cyclothon stood as a strong symbol of unity and awareness, inspiring all to nurture a future where humans and animals coexist harmoniously in balance and peace.
