Aizawl, Nov 6: The Mizo National Front (MNF) on Thursday accused Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma of making statements that could incite misunderstanding and tension among communities during a campaign event for the Dampa by-election.

Saihmingliana Sailo, a member of the MNF Legal Board, told reporters in Aizawl that Lalduhoma, while campaigning at Silsury village in Mamit district on November 1, alleged that past Mizo leaders had incited hatred against a specific tribal community. Sailo said the remarks violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and were aimed at creating communal tension.

“The Chief Minister deliberately violated the MCC and other laws by making such comments intended to disturb peaceful coexistence among Mizoram’s communities,” Sailo said, adding that the MNF Legal Board could not remain a “silent spectator” to such actions.

Sailo also alleged that Lalduhoma misused his official position by intimidating voters and offering financial aid and road construction promises during his campaign.

The MNF has lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission, seeking action against the Chief Minister for the alleged MCC violations. Polling for the Dampa by-election is scheduled for November 11, with counting of votes on November 14.
