Gangtok, August 7: The Sikkim Athletic Association (SAA), in association with the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), commemorated National Javelin Day 2025 with a state-level event at Khel Gaon Stadium in Resithang, Gangtok. The event featured a competitive javelin meet aimed at honouring India’s Olympic achievement in athletics and encouraging participation in the sport among youth and veterans in the state.
The celebration marked the anniversary of Neeraj Chopra’s historic gold medal win in javelin throw at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics—India’s first Olympic gold in track and field. The occasion witnessed enthusiastic participation from school students, budding athletes, veteran sportspersons, and sports officials across Sikkim.
In his welcome speech, Rajiv Roka, General Secretary of the Sikkim Athletic Association, emphasised the significance of the day in motivating young athletes and fostering a culture of athletics in the state. He lauded the efforts of various districts in supporting grassroots sports and identifying talent.
The javelin competition was conducted across six categories: Under-14 (Boys & Girls), Under-18 (Boys & Girls) Open (Men & Women) and Veterans (Men & Women – aged 45 and above)
Winners List: Under-14 Girls: Gold: Sangay Paldon Sherpa (Manjushree School), Silver: Alphansha Gurung (Chief Minister’s Model School) and Bronze: Jasmine Rai (PNG School)

Under-18 Boys: Gold: Nakul Ghimire, Silver: Nabin Pradhan and Bronze: Bhavyadip Chettri
