Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Thursday met the Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog, Suman K. Bery, to review the state’s development journey, key achievements, and future priorities.

During the meeting, Bery appreciated Sikkim’s progress, particularly its rise to the top position nationally in per capita income. The Chief Minister highlighted that this reflects the government’s focus on people-centric governance, health, education, and environmental sustainability.

Discussions included challenges such as vulnerable road connectivity affecting tourism, with Tamang emphasizing the need for an alternative highway alignment alongside NH-10. He also reaffirmed Sikkim’s commitment to remaining a 100% organic state and sought support for branding, marketing, and cold-chain infrastructure to benefit farmers.

Urban issues, including sustainable mobility, satellite town development, and alternative transport solutions, were also deliberated. The meeting covered strengthening border trade and tourism, including the proposed resumption of Nathula trade and expanding cross-border trade with Nepal via the Chewabhanjyang corridor.

Tamang expressed gratitude for the support of the Government of India and the guidance provided by the NITI Aayog Vice Chairperson, looking forward to continued cooperation for Sikkim’s inclusive and sustainable development.
