The Culture Department, Government of Sikkim, organised a programme at MG Marg on Thursday to observe Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.
The event was inaugurated by MLA-cum-Advisor for Urban Development and Food and Civil Supplies, Delay Namgyal Barfungpa. First observed in 2021 following an announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the day is commemorated annually to remember the suffering, displacement, and loss of life caused by the Partition of India in 1947.
The programme featured an exhibition of historical photographs and personal accounts from the Partition, aiming to preserve the memories of those affected and educate future generations.
The event was attended by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Gangtok Municipal Corporation, councillors, Heads of Departments, and senior officers from the Culture Department and Information and Public Relations Department.
