Agartala, October 10, 2025: The historic MBB College Lake site in Agartala has been transformed into a vibrant and eco-friendly open space, blending natural charm with modern amenities under the Agartala Smart City Mission. The rejuvenation project, implemented with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday.
Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Dr. Saha said that the newly developed lake site would add “a new feather to the cap of Tripura’s tourism.” He remarked, “This project is a reflection of our government’s commitment to building a clean and green Agartala in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
Dr. Saha noted that under the Smart City Mission, Agartala is undergoing rapid transformation with several major projects already in motion. “The proposed Ring Road, new flyover, Unity Mall, Satellite Township Project, and the heritage five-star hotel will be game changers for the capital city,” he said.
He further informed that the road project connecting the airport and the Haora Riverfront Development Project are nearing completion and will soon be inaugurated. Highlighting the tourism potential of the revitalized MBB College Lake site, Dr. Saha urged the authorities to ensure proper monitoring to prevent any anti-social activities within the park premises.
The newly developed lake area now stands as a symbol of sustainable urban development, offering visitors a refreshing blend of scenic beauty and modern facilities.
Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder, Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta, Advocate General Shaktimoy Chakraborty, CEO and MD of Agartala Smart City Mission Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, and AMC Commissioner D.K. Chakma were among the dignitaries present at the inaugural ceremony.
