Agartala, October 23, 2025: The Tripura Civil Society led by Tipra Motha Party MLA Ranjit Debbarma on Thursday called for a 24-hour statewide bandh to press for several key demands, including action against illegal infiltration, implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP), and the Tiprasa Accord. The bandh was accompanied by picketing at around 45 locations across the state, including three major spots in Agartala.

Speaking to reporters at North Gate in Agartala city, Ranjit Debbarma said, “In Agartala, picketing is being held at the Circuit House, in front of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, and at North Gate. Similar demonstrations are taking place in Kanchanpur, Panisagar, Hatai Kotor, and across every district.”

Debbarma added that Tipra Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has held several rounds of discussions with both the state and central governments regarding their long-pending demands.

“The central government signed the Tiprasa Accord, but it remains unimplemented. We had to move the Supreme Court to get village committee elections held. The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has passed around 38 bills, none of which have been cleared so far. It has been 18 months since the agreement, yet there has been no progress,” he said.

Highlighting the issue of cross-border infiltration, Debbarma alleged that several illegal immigrants from Bangladesh continue to enter and reside in the state. “Just a few days ago, 24 Bangladeshis were detained. Such incidents occur almost daily, and the government must act,” he stated.

Debbarma warned that the agitation would intensify if the authorities fail to address their demands promptly.
