Agartala, October 24, 2025: Tripura Congress legislator Sudip Roy Barman has strongly condemned the recent violence in Santirbazar, calling it a reflection of deepening internal strife within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Speaking from GB Hospital in Agartala city on Friday after visiting the injured, Roy Barman alleged that the incident was orchestrated to tarnish the present administration and destabilize the political climate.
Roy Barman claimed that a section of political actors is attempting to recreate the volatile atmosphere of the 1980s in Tripura for personal gain. “This is a deliberate attempt by former leaders to malign the present and plunge the state back into chaos,” he said.
The MLA met with several victims of the Santirbazar incident, including a Block Development Officer and an engineer, and expressed concern over their condition. He described the attack, which occurred in front of police personnel, as “deeply condemnable,” alleging that the victims were targeted for being Bengali. “The state is descending into jungle raj. The collapse of law and order is evident from what happened in Santirbazar,” he added.
Roy Barman demanded immediate legal action against those responsible, including the bandh organizers and attackers. He urged the Chief Minister to take decisive steps to prevent such incidents from recurring. “This cannot continue. The Chief Minister must act,” he asserted.
The Congress leader further accused the BJP of internal discord, suggesting that the violence stemmed from factional infighting. “This is the result of their own internal conflict,” he said, adding that the former leadership’s actions were aimed at destabilizing the current regime.
Addressing the Chief Minister directly, Roy Barman emphasized the need to protect citizens and their property. He criticized the administration for its inaction, stating, “People are being assaulted in front of the police, and their property is being destroyed. The police are mere spectators.” He urged the government to grant law enforcement full autonomy: “Give the police a free hand. Only then can law and order be restored.”
Roy Barman wished a speedy recovery to the injured and called for compensation for those who suffered property loss, pending investigation. “Justice must be delivered, and the victims must be supported,” he concluded.
