Two Bangladeshi Nationals Detained at Baijalbari Checkpoint in Tripura

Agartala, July 12, 2025: Two Bangladeshi nationals were detained by Tripura Police on Friday evening during a routine inspection at the Baijalbari checkpoint along the Khowai–Mohanpur route.

The incident took place when a passenger auto-rickshaw, heading from Baijalbari to Khowai, was intercepted by personnel from the Baijalbari Police Station. During the inspection, officers found two individuals whose responses during questioning raised suspicion.

“Upon interrogation, the duo admitted to being Bangladeshi nationals who had entered the state and were travelling from Mohanpur to Khowai,” said Jugal Tripura, a police official from Baijalbari.

The individuals, identified as Khokan Sarkar and Anik Sarkar, were taken into custody and brought to the local police station for further questioning.

Authorities said an investigation is underway to ascertain the details of their illegal entry and stay in India.
