Prime Minister Narendra Modi was absent from the all-party meet called by his government on Saturday, February 16 in the wake of the Pulwama terror attack. The prime minister, who had faced flak for continuing with the rally in Jhansi on Friday, is reportedly addressing several rallies on Saturday as well.

In the PM’s absence, the all-party meet, called specifically to discuss the Pulwama attack, was chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

Modi reportedly flew to Nagpur on Saturday morning. He is expected to inaugurate a few projects and interact with beneficiaries of government schemes. He is expected to spend the entire day in Maharashtra and halt at Pandharkawda in Yavatmal and later at Dhule in Khandesh, The Times of India reported.

Like the event in Jhansi, where the PM lauded his own government’s achievements, the events in Yavatmal and Dhule are not expected to be any different. The PM continues to give political speeches from these government platforms.

There seems to have been no change in the prime minister’s itinerary following the worst terrorist attack that India has seen in a decade. A day after the attack, his government took out full-page advertisements in newspapers about the inauguration of the Vande Bharat express, an event the Prime Minister could have easily skipped but chose not to. Soon after flagging off the train, he left for inaugurating ‘development projects’ in Jhansi. Two days after the attack, the prime minister is still travelling.

The all-party meet ended with a resolution that said, “India has displayed both firmness and resilience in dealing with these challenges. The entire nation speaks in one voice to express its determination to fight these challenges. Today, we stand united in solidarity with our security forces in fighting terrorism and in defending the unity and integrity of India.”
