Amid various political allegation and counter allegation between ruling BJP and opposition Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), polling has began in 26 constituencies of Karbi Anglong on Saturday for electing new autonomous council. A total of 58,682 voters will decide the political career of 166 candidates.

The council has 30 members, of which 26 are elected and four are nominated by the governor.

Of the 26 seats for which the polls are being conducted, 10 are in Diphu subdivision, nine in Hamren and seven in Bokajan.

There are 813 polling stations for the election and the counting of votes will take place on June 22.

In the meantime, leaders from all parties took part in various rallies and addressed public gathering in Karbi Anglong in previous days.
