Make all out efforts to popularize Papum Poma River Festival as an important festival to promote, preserve rich pristine nature & culture of the people for people across world to come and enjoy enchanting beauty of this Himalayan state Union MoS (I/c Sports & Youth Affairs) Khiren Rijiju said.

Referring to adventurous activities that festival embodies, in his inaugural address to it 2nd edition along Poma River bank here on Thursday, he exhorted the people to enjoy it with true spirit keeping in mind safety & security of all visitors.

Appreciating the splendid arrangements for the three-day extravaganza to offer local cuisines, adventurous activities & musical nites, he lauded the Festival Organizing Committee (FOC) and called for protection of nature by shunning hunting culture and more awareness to conserve numerous unique species for posterity.

On promotion of sports and youth affairs activities for the youth to benefit, he hinted about upcoming Centre of Excellence for boxing, wusu and weightlifting at Itanagar. Opening such centres will help develop their sporting skills to compete in Olympic Games. “We need to create more opportunities & conducive atmosphere for youth”, he said before giving away sports items to the FOC.

Advocating development Assam-Arunachal border roads, Assam Handloom, Textile & Sericulture Minister Ranjit Dutta, who is well acquainted with Tarasso area, called for strengthening age-old brotherhood by regular exchange of literary and cultural activities between, especially by those living in border areas. Dutta was accompanied by many including Biswanath DC Drubhajyoti Das & SP R. Roshan.

Lauding Dutta-led team, local MLA Tana Hali Tara also advocated maintaining age-old cultural ties and brotherhood for peace harmonious life along inter-state border. FOC chairman John Panye also addressed the gathering including Papum Pare HoDs led by DC Pige Ligu & SP Jimmy Chiram, public leaders & GBs.
