Protesters Set Vehicles on Fire in Mizoram

Protesting against the shortage of doctors at Champai civil hospital, the activists of Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) has allegedly burnt vehicles in Champhai deputy commissioner’s office on Thursday.

The bandh called by the Champhai district MZP in protest against shortage of doctors at district civil hospital entered the third day when unidentified youths stormed into the DC complex and torched the vehicles in the garage.

According to Champai, SDP Sadar Pachhunga, “Three vehicles and one bike belonging to the DC office and one private car were burnt down. Besides, the window panes of the DC’s office were also broken.” There was a tussle between police and the protesters as the cop were trying to disperse the crowd.

“Four persons, including a woman, have been injured in the tussle. No one has been arrested yet in connection with the arsons. The MZP has been demanding posting of sufficient doctors at the district hospital since February this year,” the official added.
