Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Sunday took a jibe at his Congress counterpart, saying that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi works 18 hours a day unlike “Rahul Gandhi who takes prolonged leaves, leaving, Sonia Gandhi, clueless about his whereabouts”.

“PM Narendra Modi works 18 hours every day. Rahul Gandhi runs away, his mother [Sonia Gandhi] has to look for him,” he said.

Addressing back-to-back election rallies in Sitamarhi and Saran Lok Sabha segments set to go to polls in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha Election, Amit Shah drew a contrast between Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi, claiming that the prime minister has been working “tirelessly for the past 20 years” unlike the Congress president “who needs a prolonged holiday every few months”.

Lambasting the Congress-led UPA for its alleged inadequate response to the beheading of Lance Naik Hemraj six years ago, Amit Shah said, “When militants backed by Pakistan dared to attack the Uri army camp, we gave a befitting reply with surgical strikes”.

On Saturday, Amit Shah made the similar remark on Rahul Gandhi during two back-to-back rallies in tribal-dominated Mayurbhanj and mineral-rich Jajpur Lok Sabha constituencies of Odisha.

At the rally, Amit Shah took potshots at Rahul Gandhi, saying he is no match to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has worked for 18 hours every day without taking leaves for past 18 years.

“Modi ji is hard working, dedicated and honest. The prime minister, who works 18 hours a day, has not taken a single day’s leave in past 20 years as he has dedicated himself to the nation,” Shah said.

Laying down a sharp contrast, Amit Shah said “Rahul Baba [Gandhi] goes on leaves every two months. His people keep looking for him. Even his mother gets worried as she has no clue… ‘bitwa kahan chala gaya, maalum nahin padta maako’ (mother has no clue as to where her son has gone).”
