The MET department has informed that the eastern end of the axis of monsoon channel over Northeast India as an associated cyclonic circulation which extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level on Thursday is gradually weakening and will start moving towards Uttar Pradesh.

In what could be a respite from heavy rains lashing the region which have led to major floods in the states of Assam, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh, MET department information suggests that this abatement of weather system over the Northeast will lead to decrease in rain intensity over Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.

But as of now the rainfall will continue at many places and Jorhat, Dhemaji and Sonitpur will continue to be on the verge of getting flood like situation.

While it is expected that Assam and Meghalaya will witness moderate to heavy rain for another 3-4 days and extremely heavy rainfall is expected over Assam and Meghalaya, the states of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will continue to get lesser amount of rain
