“If someone has been protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act with a hidden agenda of becoming a politician, then our student fraternity will not accept him. One has to protest for the sentiment of Assam, not to become a leader in 2021. If somebody has that intention in mind, then let me clear that our student society will raise its voice against that person also,” said the general secretary of the Dibrugarh University Post Graduate Students’ Union, Rahul Chetry at a protest programme organised against the Act at the Duliajan Bihutoli ground.

Convened by the Duliajan and Bhadoi units of the All Tai Ahom Students’ Union, Sadou Asom Muttock Yuva Chatra Sanmilan, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, All Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association, Anti Corruption Youth Power, All Assam Minority Students’ Union, Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad, Bir Lachit Sena, AASAA and many other women organisations, the protest was titled as ‘Rana Hungkaar’.
He said, “showing resentment against CAA, some other States of our country stated that they don’t want implementation of NRC. But our standpoint is different here. We have made it clear that we want implementation of NRC on the basis of the base year 1971. Here in Assam, our fight is not against any Hindu or Muslim. We are protesting against CAA because we want the protection of Assamese language and culture.”

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity leader Diponjyoti Phukan urged the people of Assam to show continuous united resentment against CAA. The All Tai Ahom Students’ Union president Litul Buragohain said that even if after 1971, God from Bangladesh wanted citizenship in Assam, we will deny him that privilege.

‘Rana Hungkaar’, the protest organised to show the disapproval of the artiste fraternity on CAA, was on Sunday joined by Kusum Kailash, Rajib Sadiya, Madhab Ranjan, Ridip Rangkit, Ramen Danah, Bir Kumar Limbu, Rajdeep Chetia. Haren Phukan, president in charge, TAIPA, Mohini Mohan, vice president, Bir Lachit Sena, Rejaol Karim Sarkar, president, AAMSU, Dibyajyoti Baruah, central organising secretary, Sadou Asom Muttock Yuva Chatra Sanmilan and Manoranjan Bora, the naked protester of the anti-CAB movement at a Delhi event, participated in the unique protest at Duliajan on Sunday.
