Sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, GoI, New Delhi and organized by the Directorate of Extension Education, General Agricultural University, Imphal, the 13th CAU-Regional Agri Fair concluded here at the College of Horticulture, Pasighat this evening on Wednesday.

During the fair, stalls of products, input agencies and SHGs displayed recently developed technologies, miniature models of farm practices, farm products and farming services. Under various categories progressive farmers from participating states were awarded with citations on this occasion by the dignitaries.

Gracing the function Chief Guest local MLA Kaling Moyong in his valedictory address accentuated on disseminating the technological intervention through extension functionaries for the quick benefit at grassroots level. He threw light on the role of CAU for increasing productivity and dwelt on the potential of North-Eastern States especially Arunachal Pradesh in bringing green revolution to the region. The MLA stated that agricultural education was an effective instrument of improving the condition of agriculture in the country. He emphasized on the integrated sustainable farming system particularly agro-forestry in the rain-fed agro-ecosystem of the state. While extending his thanks for giving an opportunity to Pasighat to host the event in a grand manner, Moyong mentioned that university is working hard for the upliftment of farming community. Both, Central and State governments are committed to increasing the farmers’ income and in this direction, all should work tirelessly and sincerely implementing the plans and projects properly, added Moyong.

Earlier, East Siang Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kinny Singh in her brief speech stated it was great honour for Pasighat to host the three-day fair through which progressive farmers and growers acquired good knowledge and assured to provide all possible help and cooperation.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. M. Premjit Singh briefed on integrated farming system, crop production and diversification, post-harvest technology and value addition, natural resource management, benefits of organic farming etc.

Dr. S. Prabhu Kumar, former Zonal Project Director (ICAR-Zona I & VIII), Dr. KK Jindal Ex-DirectorYSPUH&F, Solan and CAU Imphal, Prof. MM Adhikari, Ex-Vice-Chancellor BCKV, Kalyani and Prof. BN Hazarika, Dean, CHF, CAU (I) Pasighat also spoke on the occasion.
