The season 3 of Mon Sergyeling and Mon Rigzshung Sergyeling – the biggest singing talent hunt of Mon region began with much fanfare in Tawang, Arunachal on Sunday at Kalawangpo hall.

The singing talent hunt is initiative of Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu aimed at providing platform to youngsters from Monyul region (Tawang and West Kameng) to showcase their talent at various level.

The event first conceived in 2010 saw an enthusiastic response from aspiring singers. The event organized by Film Federation of Monyul (FFM) aims to harness local tribal singing talent and to provide them appropriate recognition, support and encouragement.

Health Minister Alo Libang launched the season 3 of the talent hunt in presence of various dignitaries. In his speech, the Minister said music has great healing power and called the event as a welcome step. He said Arunachal Chief Minister is not only a ‘development lover’ but also a ‘music lover’ and lauded his contribution in encouraging the singing talent.

Elated at the enthusiastic response, Khandu who is also the patron of FFM conveyed his best wishes to all the participants. He expressed happiness that winner of the Mon Sergyeling Season 1 contest Thutan Tsering had made it to Indian Idol top 20 and hoped that the youngsters will bring out their best-hidden talents and take their skill to similar advanced level adding that in an age where there is huge development in all sectors, youngsters are at the same time influenced by modernisation, platform like Mon Rigshung Sergyeling will encourage the younger generation to embrace our own culture & tradition.

This season saw participation of more than 242 participants, out of which 30 were shortlisted for the two event of Mon Sergyeling (modern song category) and Mon Rigzshung Sergyeling (folk song category).

The winner of Mon Sergyeling category will be awarded with Rs 8 lac and first runner up with Rs 4 lac and second runner up with Rs 2 lac. Also the winner of Mon Rigzshung Sergyeling category will be awarded with Rs 5 lac and first runner up with Rs 3 lac and second runner up with Rs 2 lac. Apart from the winners, all the participants will also be awarded with Rs 10,000 as consolation prize.
