South West Monsoon Reaches Northeast , IMD Issues Warning

Indian Meteorological Department on Monday stated that the south-west monsoon has advanced in various parts of Tripura, Meghalaya and Assam.

“The south-west monsoon has covered the entire Konkan region, including Mumbai. In North Madhya Maharashtra, it has reached up to Pune and Nashik districts. In Marathwada, its reach is restricted to Parbhani district only,” Sunitha Devi, director of IMD, Pune was quoted as saying to a media.

Besides, IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rain likely at a few places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya, “Heavy to very heavy can happen at isolated places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.”

It further warned about stormy wind reaching 30-40 Kmph gusting to 50 kph would prevail over Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, making IMD prediction correct incessant rainfall from Tuesday morning has disrupted communication and transportation service in Guwahati.
Kahilipara, Zoo Road, Lachit Nagar, Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Noonmati, Bamunimaidam, Lakshminath Bezbaruah chowk and several other localities in the city went under water. Traffic snarls were witnessed on major roads due to artificial floods.

It is to be mentioned here that, Bharalu River inside the city is increasing alarmingly due to heavy rainfall threatening overflow its banks to submerge more areas.
