Chelsea did not get the start to the season they wanted as they were only able to manage a 2-2 draw against Swansea at home after they were reduced to 10-men.

Chelsea finally got on the front foot after a back and forth exchange in the 23rd minute when Oscar whipped in a free kick from the edge of the 18 yard box and the ball flew in without touching anyone. Swansea drew on level terms in the 29th minute when Andre Ayew knocked in the rebound at the second time of asking after Courtois had saved Gomis header. Chelsea were back in front 92 seconds later as Willian’s intended cross deflected off and over Fabianski into the net. Swansea still looked bright in the second half and in the 55th minute when Gomis ran onto a lovely pass and knocked the ball past Courtois, the big Belgian stretched his foot and brought Gomis down in the box, Michael Oliver immediately pointed to the spot before showing Courtois a red card. Gomis scored the resulting penalty to make it 2-2. Swansea created a few half-chances but in the end, a draw was deserved by both sides.

Chelsea are still the favorites to win the league despite their early season setback.

Watford took the lead as Mexico’s Miguel Layun smashed the ball home past Tim Howard to put the Hornets 1-0 ahead after getting on the end of a cross from the left.

Ross Barkley smashed a wonder strike to level the scores in the second half, but Watford showed real guts to push themselves back ahead again as Odion Ighalo hammered his own effort home shortly after.

However, Arouna Kone popped up in the 86th minute to deny Watford and claim a point for the Toffees.
