Napaam, Jan 21: The 27th Foundation Day function of Tezpur Central University was celebrated at the institute here on Tuesday. Dr.Kuladhar Saikia, Former DGP of Assam and president-elect of Asom Sahitya Sabha attended the event as chief guest along with distinguished guest Prof. Ved Prakash, the former chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC).

The programme began with the hoisting of University flag followed by Borgeet which was presented by the students of the university. The entire event was held at Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha Auditorium, Tezpur University.
While the Vice-Chancellor Prof. V.K. Jain, delivered the welcome address, distinguished guest and educationist Prof. Ved Prakash delivered the first Foundation Day oration followed by the chief guest Kuladhar Saikia.

Speaking on the occasion, Prakash addressed the challenges faced by the higher education in India. He further spoke extensively on the quality of education that exists in this country.

“Responsibility lies with the teachers. Through our teachings, we need to give our students the competencies and skills that will enable them to face the harshest of situations. Though the world loves talent, but it always rewards character,” said Prakash while concluding his oration.

While interacting with the audience, Dr.Kuladhar Saika articulated the importance of building trust in today’s time. He further differentiated between the academic learnings to that of one’s quest for knowledge.

“You might not be doing well in the classroom, or in your exams but your quest for learning is different. At times, there will be certain barricades, but the curiosity to learn and acquire something new should never end. It has to go on, even if your student life ends,” said Dr.Saikia while addressing the students at Tezpur University.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Prof. Debabrata Das, chairman of the organising committee followed by the National Anthem.
