After much wait the classes of Mizoram Sainik School is all set to start classes from this academic session. The school which was established in Chhingchhip village of the state was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla on Wednesday.

“Initiative had been taken for establishment of the Sainik School in 1998,” said CM adding, “However, unfortunately the project was abandoned for ten years (during the rule of Mizo National Front.”

He further added that the present state government has revived the project as soon as they came back to power in 2008. “The inauguration of Sainik School after so many years of efforts is a major milestone for development of education in Mizoram.”
Thanhawla also thanked the 60 landowners in Chhingchhip who donated their lands for the School without expecting anything in return, “It is wise move as the village would be the one that would benefit the most from the school.”

Sainik School trains children not only for the army, but it also nurtures them to be good citizens, “The steps taken to admit girls in the school, to be the first Sainik School that admits girls,” disclosed CM.

It is to be mentioned here that, Mizoram Sainik School is 27th in India and 4th in the Northeast. Assam, Manipur and Nagaland already have a Sainik School in their respective states.
