Thousands of people came out on the streets of Manipur on Monday in quest of amicable solution over the Manipur University impasses shouting for a quick solution and peace rather than politics in the educational areas.

As part of the mass public rally, hundreds of people in Kangpokpi District congregated at the Community Hall, Kangpokpi District Headquarters at around 11:30 am under the aegis of Kangpokpi People Forum on Monday.

The rally goers were seen holding banners and placards which read, “No politics in the University”, “Save the career of University students”, “Resume University immediately”, “Punish VC if found guilty”, “Let the VC in-charge resume his duties”, “Remove engineering cell from the University”, “Government should bring a quick solution to University problems”, “Bring back academic atmosphere”, “No politics in educational areas”, “We want peace and development”, etc.

The rallyists marched towards Deputy Commissioner Kangpokpi office from Community Hall near M. Thomas Ground via the National Highway-2 under tight security forces who monitor the situation so as to avoid any unwanted incident.

Kangpokpi People Forum Convenor, Alien Khongsai and Co-Convener Thangtinlen Haokip while representing the public submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister of Manipur through the Deputy Commissioner Kangpokpi at the office of the Deputy Commissioner.

The memorandum containing four charter of demands include bringing normalcy instead of playing politics in the university; save thousands of students career who pursue graduation and PG in the University; bringing amicable solution between the VC and the agitators and to implement a fully function of DRDA and District Election Officer, Kangpokpi District in their respective functionaries.

Drawing the attention and intervention of the Government over the long pending issue of the University, it said that the people are now upset upon the Government of India and Government of Manipur for remaining silent over the issue even after various severe agitations which sustain till the present day.

It also said that political parties should not interfere in education sector but keep the sanctity of it and the University while adding that the Manipur University problem makes thousands of student careers at stake in the past 67 years.

It further said that even after the Vice chancellor took leave for a month with an aim to bring fair enquiry by the Fact Finding Committee constituted by MHRD in bringing amicable solution, the agitation spearheaded by MUSU, MUTA and MUSA worsened with the sole demand of removing the VC.

“We are more concerned of the students career and give priority to them since they [the student community] are the pillar of the Nation”, it asserted.

The KPF also urges the Government to take necessary action in the larger interest of Kangpokpi District over the non implementation of DRDA and non devolution of District Election Officer power to DC Kangpokpi stating that DRDA and District Election Officer functionaries is still pending on the part of the state Government for full authority or implementation.

Similar rally were also reportedly held at neighbouring districts Senapati and in the state capital Imphal demanding early amicable solution over the impasses of Manipur University.
