Former PWD Minister Badal Choudhury, who was arrested in connection with the multi-crore PWD tender scam, was sent to four-day police remand after he was produced before a court here on Monday.

District and sessions judge Satyajit Kar Purkayastha passed the order on the police plea for four-day remand for the former PWD Minister, but said that the remand has been granted on the conditions that he would be kept in a separate room with all basic amenities like bed, drinking water, attached bathroom and toilet, round the clock presence of doctor and facilities for close relatives to meet him during the remand period.
In view of Choudhury’s poor health, the judge said there would be no need for the former minister to appear before the court physically as he would be queried through video conferencing. During remand, the Investigating Officer would be allowed to interrogate Choudhury as and when necessary. Judge Satyajit Kar Purkayastha also sent retired chief engineer Sunil Bhowmik, an accused in the PWD scam, to custody till November 22. But the third accused named in the FIR, former Chief Secretary YP Singh, is yet to be arrested.
