The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2025 has selected Boong, a Manipuri-language drama produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment, as its official “Spotlight Film.” The film will have its Victorian state premiere in Australia this August.
Marking the directorial debut of Lakshmipriya Devi, Boong comes from a filmmaker with a distinguished career as a first assistant director on acclaimed projects including Luck by Chance, Talaash, Aamir Khan’s PK, and Mira Nair’s globally celebrated series A Suitable Boy.
The selection highlights Excel Entertainment’s commitment to championing unique storytelling and emerging voices from across India. While the banner has a track record of producing boundary-pushing titles, Boong marks its first venture into Manipuri-language cinema.
Recognised for its celebration of culturally rich and original films, IFFM has placed Boong at the centre of its 2025 line-up. Festival Director Mitu Bhowmick Lange expressed excitement over showcasing the film as a key highlight of this year’s program.
The 2025 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne will run from August 14 to 24, bringing together filmmakers and audiences from around the globe to celebrate the power of cinema in connecting cultures.
