Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the government respects a democratic movement but opposes emotional propaganda in the name of protest. Addressing a public meeting at Howly in Barpeta district held on the occasion of the inauguration of silver jubilee celebration of Sankardev Sishu Niketan Howly, Sonowal stated that only a few emotional statements cannot save a nation, its language or land. “We must be pragmatic to save our language and motherland,” he said.

Stating that without protection of land, language and culture cannot be protected, the Chief Minister informed that more than four lakh indigenous families of the State still lack land patta which need special attention. He insisted upon rediscovering Assam to place the State in a unique position on the world.

Referring to education, Sonowal stressed upon the need of a radical change in the educational system. He informed that more than three and half lakh fake students have been identified through Gunotsav and the effort of reformation in this sector is going on. “There are many challenges in the education sector of the State which we have to overcome,” Sonowal said and requested cooperation from all concerned.

Hrishikesh Goswami, Media Advisor to the Chief Minister and Ranjeet Kumar Dass, MLA Sarbhog and president of BJP state unit also attended the inaugural function.
