In 2011, Zuboni Humtsoe started her brain child Preciousmelove (PML) with an all girl team in a garage with savings from scholarship. Over the years, the PML site has reached across the nation and for her outstanding contribution in the field of empowerment she has recently been conferred with prestigious “Nari Shakti Puraskar 2016”.

We all live in this world, but let us think how many of us want to make it a better place by doing something extra-ordinary. There are a few who really dream high and try to do something different. One such, is Zuboni Humtsoe— a young and inspiring entrepreneur from Nagaland.

While getting candid with Northeast Today, Zuboni refers to herself as a dreamer and a passionate entrepreneur. She loves the fact that we can dream and be anything we want to be. “Since I was a kid I always dreamt of making the world a better place, by doing extraordinary things and working very hard,” Zuboni says.

Sharing the story of her journey she says, “After my father suffered a stroke our family was going through a very hard time. I hated myself for not being able to do anything. Sitting on the cold benches of the hospital I vowed to work really hard and change things. I wanted to make my own destiny and not wait for a miracle.”

Soon after, Zuboni started saving Rs 3500 from her college scholarship fund, converted her bedroom into a walk-in store and started ‘Precious Me Love’ through Facebook in 2011. “Since we did not have a lot of resources, we worked from the backyard of our house, bootstrapped and on a shoe-string budget, tapping our creative veins, making use of all our available resources to the hilt and using artistic photography to share our story.”

Speaking about PML she says, “Building Precious me love has been very challenging but because of the immense love we received we could make it this far.” At PML each and every member pledges to spread more love through the work.

The PML team try their best to build a personal relationship for providing the best products and services, “I keep telling my team precious me love belongs to each one of us but it belongs more to the clients and customers because they ensured we succeed.”

Zuboni describes entrepreneurship as a state of mind and an attitude. “It is an obsession to create values and relationships to change the world. True entrepreneurs are crazy and dream with their eyes open. It’s about building dreams with an idea, taking crazy risks knowing that there is no success guaranteed but you cannot stop because your passion beckons you day and night.”

She has three favorite entrepreneurs-Ratan Tata, Mark Zuckerberg and Walt Disney. “I wish Ratan Tata would personally mentor me so that I can create great industries for our people and become a philanthropist like him. Also I want to meet Mark Zuckerberg and personally tell him how Facebook has changed my life.”

When asked about the response of customers after launching an e-commerce site, she shares, “We had an amazing response and it has taken business to a whole new level too. The PML blog has also become a platform to share wonderful stories and showcase the creativity, designs and innovation of our women from Northeast India.”

Encounter with PM Modi

Zuboni met Prime Minister Narendra Modi three years back during the hornbill festival. “I ran after him and he left his VVIP entourage to visit our stall and admired our work. It was amazing that a Prime Minister like him left his entourage for an ordinary Naga girl. It convinced me that no dream is too big and no dreamer too small.”

“I again met him on March 9 along with the other Nari Shakti awardees. As I was recalling the incident, he completed my story by saying because of me he had to turn back around to visit the PML stall. My jaws dropped because I had not even completed my story but he remembered the incident,” she smiles.

Zuboni considered the National award as a recognition of all their hardwork and determination. “The national award proves that no dream is too big and no dreamer too small. Meeting all the other amazing awardees from across the country and listening to their stories also really inspired me.

Many of the ‘Nari Shakti Puraskar’ awardees have agreed to visit Nagaland and help PML team in empowering and creating opportunities for the people.
