Guwahati, July 24, 2023: An assistant professor at North Lakhimpur College in Assam, Dr. Hemanta Sarmah, was allegedly arrested on charges of sexual assault against students on Sunday last. Drunk while teaching, he reportedly sexually assaulted multiple female students inside the classroom.

A disturbing revelation emerged when at least 56 students of the college filed a written complaint against the professor, leading the college Principal to take immediate action.

Subsequently, a formal case was lodged with the police, resulting in the arrest of the accused professor, Dr. Hemanta Sarmah.

The alleged sexual misconduct has shocked the college community and triggered a swift response from the authorities.
